Drawing Classes and Workshops

Do you love drawing, or would you like to learn? Drawing can be rewarding, calming, mindful and fun. With an inexpensive pencil, eraser and sketchbook you can draw anytime, anywhere capturing visual memories, moments and ideas.

I’m an artist and illustrator who is passionate about drawing and encouraging others to feel the same. I run fun and friendly drawing groups in my home town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight. And have also travelled to teach workshops across the UK, working with the W.I., ‘Help For Heroes’, Hambledon Vineyard and various private clients to pass on that passion and get people inspired by new and classic sketching ideas.

I’m delighted to say that face to face teaching has now resumed at Cowes Library! Places are limited and booking is essential. Our new Drawing Group term starts in September 2022 (dates TBC), and will run on Thursday afternoons 2-4pm and Thursday evenings 7-9pm. please get in touch if you’d like to know more.

Botanical illustration is an artistic discipline that dates back 100’s of years and is still used today. Artists work alongside botanists to capture and highlight the amazing detail in the plants they study. This magical world is brought to life in pencil and paint to help scientists and naturalists observe, recognise and record their plants.

I’m currently studying with the Royal Botanical Gardens Edinburgh and in this 3-hour course I would like to introduce you to the principles of botanical illustration. We will explore the tools used and the discipline of the recording process. We’ll then practice colour mixing, drawing outlines and use different techniques to capture some of the detail on your plant.
This course is designed to inspire you to observe your natural environment and see the wonder and beauty in it. And to provide you with some context and techniques to help you produce your own botanical art.
